Certainly a lot of work went into such a successful day and it would be great to see another day of "education" for LPNs.
One thing that the Board may wish to look at could be a one day mini-workshop or conference that had a selction of speakers with a variety of topics of interest to LPNs. I know this takes a lot of work but I believe in the long run , it would be of benefit to the membership.
Thank you.

I have uploaded the AGM registration form today and a "Top 6 Reasons you should join the Association" so please pass it on to as many LPNs. We need your support. Look forward to any questions you have at the AGM for sure.

It looks like it is going to be quite the day. I plan on asking some questions about our scope changing. I mean, I already have my IV starts, but I hear that we are going to be doing IV medications, and hanging blood and blood products and more....Are we going to have to learn these new skills in bits and pieces, or all at once? I wonder if the association is able to answer some of these questions for me?? I know I'll be there to find out, especially since it is only $15.00 to go.

I agree with you Salix, that when specialty training has occured,it should reflect the pay scale. The only place where you will find it reflected is in the OR. As for the the whole union thing.... I for one will be so glad when we can sit back and reflect on how unrealistic those promises really were!! Once people 'sign' cards, (should that be their dicision), that union still has to apply to the govt. to become the union to represent the LPN's. So to tell those poor LPN's that they will be represented "better", and immediate change will happen, is a complete sham....

That said, if a LPN does specialise, pay grade should reflect that, which doesn't occur in BC either.
Ryanw, you're right about Mental Health. When I graduated in 2005, I think I was the only person in my class that went on to working in Mental Health and Addictions!

I know in MB and AB LPN's make quite a bit more, but they have had the 2 year LPN program for awhile, and their scope of practice is way broader than ours. We have a lot of catching up to do, in terms of education! It's coming, that I know for sure!

Theres an online mental health upgrade for LPN in psychiatry and two years ago there were like 8-10 people enrolled and now theres 150.
its a good thing to, I remember the mental health component of my basic progam being only a week long, and it(MH)is in so many care situations if not most of them.

I've never done lobbying before, but I'm assuming that anything on a government level take a lot of time, money, and effort. It seems very naive to me that these promises are thought to be instantaneous after switching. And yes, conflict of interest is huge!

I find that so very disheartening. I'm still not convinced that one or the other is the best answer, but we can't think outside the box because Ryanw, I think you hit it on the head, it's mostly about capitalism.
Message me and I'll let you know what my name(s) are on LPN Fascist State. I mean Cafe.

The healthcare landscape seems quite prosperous for LPNS at the moment I don't know the history extensively but we must have more nurses working now than at any time in the last two decades.
I think theres 1000~ trained each year and as long as they don't have their heart set on the Fraser Valley they're finding work.

thankfully many of them had no allegiance and would shoo them out, because thats really what people should be doing at 10 at night!!

Nice to see someone from the "other" forum. These are tough times. It's difficult enough to work in health care, and to top it all off, we have the Raid. I can't stand it either. Luckily at my workplace we stand together so it hasn't been too bad. It's the people who sneak in at night to disrupt our work that make tempers rise. I want November to be OVER!
I feel that this is a safer place to talk. Not one sided. No one will be banned because of their beliefs. Whew!
Let's get on with our common goal! To promote LPN's and our practice!

How can we do this without getting sucked into the union vortex?
